Busch-free@home: New Matter certification makes Busch-Jaeger Smart Home fit for the future

With the official Matter certification, Busch-Jaeger has reached an important milestone for the ABB-free@home system, which is now one of the first professional smart home systems to be fully compatible with the cross-manufacturer Matter standard . This certification allows users to seamlessly connect the devices in their ABB-free@home system with other smart home ecosystems such as Apple Home , Amazon Alexa , and Samsung SmartThings , providing centralized control and expanded usage options.

Advantages of Matter integration for Busch-free@home

Matter certification enables control of ABB-free@home devices such as light switches, dimmers, blinds, and thermostats via a Matter-compatible platform. The Matter Bridge acts as a central interface that must be installed on the ABB-free@home Access Point 2.0 system. This second-generation access point, available since 2018, is required for Matter integration and supports new features such as local control without the cloud , increased security standards, and easy integration of additional Matter-compatible devices.

Installation and requirements of the Matter add-on

To use the Matter add-on, users need System Access Point 2.0 and a firmware version of at least 3.3.1. The add-on itself can be activated via the access point's configuration interface. After installation, a QR code is generated that simplifies setting up the Matter system. Control via Matter is currently limited to up to 64 devices in the ABB free@home system, which can continue to be operated via the KNX or free@home radio protocols in addition to Matter control. A brief guide to the Matter add-on can be found at the following link: Howto - Matter Bridge Add-on .

Extensions and future possibilities

ABB/Busch-Jaeger plans to continuously expand the Matter add-on and enable the integration of third-party devices into ABB-free@home systems. In the future, the System Access Point 2.0 will also be certified as a Matter controller, enabling Matter-compatible devices from other manufacturers to be directly integrated into the ABB-free@home system. This planned expansion would make ABB/Busch-Jaeger a pioneer in the field of cross-manufacturer smart home interoperability.

Conclusion: Busch-free@home is becoming more future-proof and flexible

With Matter certification, ABB-Jaeger demonstrates its commitment to greater interoperability and user-friendliness in the smart home. This further development enables ABB-free@home users to flexibly expand and securely control their home network. Local control and the wide range of supported ecosystems make ABB-free@home a first choice for sophisticated smart home applications in both the professional and private sectors.
